Yiddisha Santa

The first December that came along after I met my late-husband (R.I.P.), I asked if he did any decorating during the holidays. He said that the only thing he does is put out the Yiddisha Santa. Of course, I was intrigued as I had never heard of such!

Before I continue, let me tell you something about him that will lend more credence to the explanation. My husband and I had a lot in common, including having cycled through several different religions during life in an effort to find the real truth. One of the religions he followed for a number of years, mostly to please an ex of his, was Judaism. Even though he was no longer following Judaism when we met, he still had a mezuzah on the frame of the back door, and it was with him that I had my first taste of Gefilte fish and a few other kosher items.

He said he would dig through the closet and find the Santa, as it was about time to put it out, anyway. He returned, beaming proudly, with an adorable Santa figurine. He tapped the top of the figure with his finger and explained that the unconventional headgear, which looks a bit like a beanie, also bears a resemblance to a yarmulke. Hence, he called it the Yiddisha Santa. LOL

The same as me, he appreciated unusual and unique items, and this figure fits the bill! I think the Yiddisha Santa is adorable! I like his dark little eyes, the fascinating twirls and curls in his beard, and the teddy bears that he is bringing as gifts. Even though I lost my husband to cancer several years ago, I have kept this figurine and cherish it as one of the things he loved.
