Wintermas Snowmen

The iconic image of the snowman during the Wintermas season is common, even in areas where snow is not so prevalent as in some locales. Snowmen often can be seen hanging-out in merchants' window displays, as the following photographs by me illustrate.

The above snowmen decided to "chill" beside a park bench. Now, look at the photo carefully for a moment and see if you note anything quirky about it.

~I'll wait... tra la la, dum de dum...~

Okay, you're back? Did you see? That bench has a safari theme of animals from Africa cast into the back — a lion, a giraffe, a monkey, and an elephant, all animals that live in hot environments — which is quite the dichotomy against the backdrop of a winter scene. I thought that to be a rather interesting pairing! 😎

These snowmen have been working hard, stacking presents for all the good little girls and boys. Have you been good this year...? 😊 Or have you been downvoting people for no discernible or valid reason whatsoever...? 😕

This cute fellow was spied hanging-out on a tree. It is obviously handmade and is quite charming. The base is one of those little plastic ice cream spoons as one might find at Baskin Robbins and similar shops. A piece of ribbon, a couple of pieces of felt, and five little spots of paint have this guy ready to celebrate winter!

Since there are three dots on the tummy, I feel sure this was supposed to be a snowman. However... the carrot "nose" is a bit large and not fastened to the center of his face, so it looks more like the bill of a bird, like a penguin. Also, one of the intense, little eyes is slightly smaller than the other. Therefore, in my mind, this is a penguin with a snarky smile and a bit of a   O.o   expression on his face! I love this little fellow! 💛 😁

Also, this photo has another curious layer to it... This ornament was hanging on a Christmas tree at the Veterans' Administration medical clinic in Greenville, SC, and the ornament was very likely made by a veteran, as with other ornaments on the tree. This photo was taken several years ago when my father was still alive and I had taken him to one of his doctor appointments. After getting him situated comfortably in a chair in the waiting room, I took a few steps over to this tree to look at it closer, and began snapping two or three closeup photos of the ornaments. Next thing I knew, an armed Security Guard was standing beside me and saying, "Ma'am, photography is not allowed in this facility." 😮 Not sure what that was all about, but okay... I apologized and put my phone away.
