In front of the electric cooperative office is an enormous tree. I'm not a good judge of the height of trees, so I won't even hazard a guess. But, you can see how it dwarfs the single-story building to the right. Because of the size of the tree, single rows of lights are draped from the top, hanging down the sides.

I walked to the foot of the tree once, and was shocked to see that the lights are the same size as a standard lightbulb that would be used in a house! Since lighting might be different sizes in other parts of the world, I made the following photo to show the size of a 'standard' light bulb here:

It would be interesting to know how many lights of this size grace that big tree each year, and how much the electric cooperative spends on the power to light them! That tree has been decorated this way every year since my childhood, and there's no telling how long the tradition ran before I came along!
