On the Road

Recently, I had to make a road trip a couple hours away to help a family member with some things. The drive there wasn't bad, although coming back at night in pouring rain wasn't fun at all.

On the way there, the weather was good and there was some beautiful mountain scenery. I am currently living in the piedmont region, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains (part of the greater Appalachian Mountain Range), so I see mountains almost every day although they're a short distance away. But, this trip took me into the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains! There were mountains all around me for much of the trip, and I love being in mountain areas so much! The following photo shows the last stretch of road before the winding climb up into the mountains begins.

The place where I met with the family member was beside a 200-acre (81 ha) lake that is surrounded by mountains on all sides. It's a lovely location with much charm and so scenic! I was able to snap a few photos, here-and-there, some of which I can show in upcoming blogs. However, most of my time was spent driving the family member around accomplishing many errands, delivering a computer to her (as her old one had problems), and setting up a new phone for her (as the old one died). So, there wasn't much time left for doing anything truly fun, although we did stop at one point for a fabulous seafood meal! 😋

This is the view from one vantage point, overlooking the lake on my way in. I had to stop to call her hotel when I arrived in the area and this was the perfect place! I had been here a couple of times when I was a teenager 50 years ago and then again as a young adult 40-ish years ago. It is amazing how places change over time, but the lake and the mountains remain the same in their beauty.
