OLD BARN № 038 & 039

Situated on the same piece of property along US Highway 178 at the intersection with Sharon Church Road in northern Anderson County, South Carolina (USA) are these two barns. Cataloged as OLD BARN № 038 & OLD BARN № 039 in my Old Barn Project.

OLD BARN № 038: This simple but lovely structure was obviously once part of a working farm, with its hay door situated above the main opening into the drive bay of the barn. The extension on the right side could have once been a mere covered shelter (with open sides), but appears to have been enclosed to serve as a greenhouse. What a perfect use for it!


OLD BARN № 039: I rather like the patchwork of mismatched wood that was used to repair the extension on the right-side of this building, as it gives a very rustic feel to it. Since the main entryway is on a different side than what is showing in this photo, there's no telling for what purpose this structure might have originally been designed, but it is cute!


The barns are on a large tract of land that is also home to the Pine Valley Driving Range, a place where golfers can go to practice their swings and receive coaching. Decades ago, this large and open area was probably a field, planted with crops.
