Due to the structure of this barn, I'd say it was built for storing hay and sheltering livestock during inclement weather. Adjacent to the property are several wide-open fields, although some of them have been taken-over for housing development. That somewhat spoils the rural charm of the area, but folk need places to live. This little homestead, likely a remaining parcel from a much larger farm, is like an oasis of days-gone-by.
On the same piece of land, and not far from the barn, is a fabulous, two-story, frame farmhouse with a big front porch, a hallmark of many old homes in The South. It would be fascinating to pop briefly back in time and see this same place in its heyday as a true, working farm!
