Mad Hatters Tea Party

Some time ago, the lovely @saffisara started a fun initiative called #haturday, devoted to the wearing of hats, hats, hats of all kinds! Many people have participatedΒ β€” such as the always-fashionably-chappeaued @katrina-arielΒ β€” and sported their headgear with amazing style!

I've never been much of one to wear hats. I've never found them to be flattering on me, and they tend to flatten my hair and leave it crimped with a permanent "hat ring" until it is once again revived by washing and a blow-dryer.

When my beloved husband passed-away a few years ago, he had a couple of hats which he wore often when going out, especially if it was a rainy day. I kept one of them just to have yet-another-something-of-his for the memories.

Fast forward to some time later when I was invited to a "Mad Hatters" themed party, where everyone was encouraged to wear a hat and other attire that might be appropriate for recreating a tea party akin to that in "Alice in Wonderland." Some truly quirky headgear and outfits were worn that day, and everyone contributed by bringing food.

My outfit was comprised of items which I already owned. I chose a black dress with white polka dots which I bought years ago in a second-hand store. It has a delightful vintage look to it and is fun to wear. Then, of course, I wore my late-husband's black hat. To coordinate with the white polka dots, I wore a pair of my white, dressy heels. Rounding-out the look, I wore a pair of my mother's genuine, vintage dress-gloves from the 1960s. (Back in the 1960s and prior, no woman was considered "properly dressed" for church or an evening-out without a pair of gloves.) Lastly, I wore a simple strand of pearls and matching earrings.

So, there you have itΒ β€” my first #haturday post (which I have been meaning to make for weeks, but usually forget until a couple of days later).
