Mid-February, the daffodils started blooming. Then, in early March, we had flowers on the forsythia bushes (Yellow Bells), Crabapple tree, ornamental almond bushes, and the Bradford pear trees. In mid-March, the Eastern Redbud trees joined the show, and Spring officially sprang last week. Then, cold blasts of air came down from The Frigid North. So, half-winter /half-spring skies with interesting clouds appeared. I love the shaft of sunlight in this photo!
There are three striking things about the above scene! First, there is a fire rainbow in the clouds! A "fire rainbow" occurs when sunlight is refracted through ice crystals in clouds, coloring the clouds like a rainbow. Looking closely, there are shades of golden yellow, orangish-red, and aqua-blue!
Then, the cloud below-and-right of the sun has distinct, parallel ridges in it:
To the left of those ridges, one can see another colorful patch, which is a continuation of the halo around the sun. Just below that bottom-arc of the halo is a puff of cloud which I find quite fascinating:
