We had our first snow of the year in SC this weekend, although it was just a couple of inches. It's always rather odd to see a few ORANGE and brown leaves still on the trees while the snow falls. I didn't venture out during this snow, so the following is only photo I captured, taken from inside the house, looking out our glass patio door.

When the snow was coming down, it was cold and breezy. We seldom get pure snow here, as it often comes down with sleet and/or freezing rain mixed into it. It is also common to see rain first, then sleet, then snow, creating a treacherous layer of frozen, slippery conditions underneath the snow. Why venture out when such a gorgeous scene is visible from inside the house...? 😊
Winters here aren't terribly bad, though — we do have temperatures in the single-digits (Fahrenheit, that is) sometimes, but that is rare. I have lived in the southeastern US all my life and have seen quite different climates.
When I lived in the mountains of western North Carolina, temperatures dropped to -20°F (-29°C) several times with the Wind Chill Index ("feels like") hovering at -40°F. Brutal conditions like that didn't happen too often and usually lasted no more than two or three days, but they did happen. In the summertime, though, temps popping into the 90s during summer were rare, too.
When I lived in Florida, though, summer temps often crested the 100°F mark (38°C) with "Heat Index" ("feels like") conditions around 110°F-112°F. But, the winters were so mild that temperatures only dropped into the low-30s/upper-20s for maybe two weeks, and then rebounded into the 40s/50s at night and 70s/80s during the day! It was wonderful!
The following public domain image, by Stilfehler on Wikipedia, was colored by me to show the ranges of temperatures in the portions of NC, SC, and FL where I have lived. Temperatures where I lived in TN and GA matched those of SC and FL, respectively.

The older I get, the more difficult it becomes dealing with the effects of the cold temperatures. Winter has just gotten underway here, but I am ready for spring, already! LOL!
