Sometimes, instead of changing colors in autumn, leaves just fall apart. Pigment appears to simply disappear in places, or perhaps some outer-layer has fallen away. The deterioration is patchy, not uniform, similar to our having a stubbed toe and a chest cold, simultaneously.
Things fall apart. It's a fact of life, and some people have written books about it to help others deal with it. But this leaf can't read, as far as we know, so it has no choice but to fall apart.
Buffeted by winds and rain and blazing sun, what do you do to keep from falling apart?
