Here in the southern US, autumn starts later than it does in the northern reaches. November begins in a couple of days, but the only trees that have really begun to change color are the dogwoods and our fig tree. There are some brownish spots on some of the oak leaves, but no real color yet, per se.
There are many different species of dogwood trees, but the one we have here is Cornus florida, and they are always the first to change color. Their leaves usually begin by turning a delicate orange, which deepens into a red, then continues to deepen until the leaves are brown.
I like catching sunbursts in photos!
