Black Widow: Reflection Hunters Contest: Round-18

A venomous Black Widow Spider made an appearance behind my house a few years ago and I shared a photo of it as well as information about that species of spider. Since that time, I have decided to make my photos available via Creative Commons licensing so others can use them, so I am doing that here with this shot. The photo also includes a great reflection of the spider in the glass of the door, so it is perfect for the Reflection Hunters Contest!

I hereby submit my entry to Reflection Hunters Contest: Round-18

This was actually a happy accident. When I took the photo, I was concentrating so much on ensuring that the little beastie was in focus, I didn't notice the reflection immediately. It is a fantastic thing, though, from a scientific viewpoint (as well as artistic) because the profile of the spider can clearly be seen! Two views of the critter, in one shot! Boom! πŸ’₯

The original contest post for Reflection Hunters Contest: Round-18 contains the following rules for participants:

πŸ”…Place your entry link in the comment section of this post!

πŸ”…The photos must be your own. πŸ”…One entry per person. πŸ”…The title of your post should make clear that it is an ~ Entry for the Reflection Hunters Contest. πŸ”…Post in the Shadow Hunters Community πŸ”…If you create a post with multiple reflection photos, you should state which one is your entry, otherwise I will assume it is the first photo. πŸ”…Please use #reflections as one of your first 5 tags.

Photos often lack the detail that the human eye can perceive, and lighting conditions will sometimes render a subject in subpar manner. So, as I frequently do, I processed the photo different ways in an effort to get the best balance with the detail. For instance, the red marks on the back of the spider were quite obvious to my unaided eye, yet faded considerably in the original photo, above. The following edit rectifies that situation without compromising the darkness of the spider too much, overall.

More information about this creature can be read in my original Black Widow Spider post!
